Okay, yeah. I officially suck at this whole blogging thing. It’s literally been about a month since I’ve updated.
Wow!
This month went by pretty fast for me. I’m not even going to bother making excuses for why I haven’t updated. I don’t feel apologetic about it; I’ve just honestly lost interest in blogging, reading blogs, returning comments, and making layouts. I am still here, it’s not like I’ve dropped off the face of the online earth… but I’m just not very active online anymore. Ugh! I couldn’t create a decent layout if my life depended on it, it seems.
I wanted to talk about the latest movie I’ve seen… the movie everyone is going to be talking about this summer, Batman: the Dark Knight!
I know that mostly females read my blog, and some may think this is a total “guy movie”. I’ve always been the kind of girl who enjoys reading comic books, playing card games/video games like Pokemon, and I like the whole superhero thing. I’m not a tomboy, I won’t go as far as sitting down and watching a sports game (hell, no) or commenting on how nice a girl’s rack is (well, only sometimes) but I enjoy some of the guy stuff, too! LOL
Saturday night, my boyfriend and I actually had a “date night”. We don’t normally go out and do stuff since we tend to be the type to rent movies, and order a pizza and stay home. But this time, I wanted to go out and have a nice night together. We went to a small Italian restaurant in town and had a delicious meal, and then we went to the theater to see the new Batman movie, the Dark Knight.
My thoughts on the film are kind of mixed, but overall, I liked it. First of all, though… I really only like Batman, as far as superhero-type-movies go. I don’t like Spiderman. Or the Incredible Hulk. Or the Fantastic Four. But Batman is cool; I like the comics, the old school Batman TV show (you know, the one with the “WHAM! POW! SMACK!” fight-scenes, and Robin shouting out things like “Holy coincidence, Batman!”), so Batman is cool with me. But, I prefer the older Batman movies from the 90s.
You know the ones. Remember? A memorable Batman film was the one directed by Tim Burton (you know how I love him), called Batman Returns. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer as nerd-by-day, sensual-feline-by-night Catwoman; and Danny Devito serves an unforgettable performance as the Penguin, the repulsive, sewer dwelling creature, who somehow makes it to the surface to become a popular political figure in Gotham City. With Tim Burton’s dark, tongue-in-cheek humor, it works. I also love Batman and Robin, and I thought George Clooney was a great Batman.
All of the sudden, Batman is being redone. Gone are the quirky, eccentric, comical Batman films. Batman is now very literal, dark, and serious. Christian Bale (yawn) is the quiet, brooding Bruce Wayne that takes his job as Gotham City’s hero very seriously. He understands that sometimes to do what’s right, bending rules is necessary. Blah blah blah, yadda yadda…
Now…the character that steals the show from Boring Bale is the late Heath Ledger as the infamous Joker. With his smeared makeup, creepy voice, and grotesque smile, the Joker is the reason to see this movie, as far as I’m concerned. I also have to say that the Harvey Dent/Two Face character definitely had me on the edge of my seat a few times, too!
I am probably one of the few people in the world who very much love evil characters. I tend to think heroes are boring. They generally are one-sided in my opinion, they want good things to happen, and to save people. Yeah, we get it. But a hero is nothing without a villain. The Joker is an interesting villain, and Heath Ledger gives an excellent and entertaining performance in this movie. Heath’s untimely death is such a shame because this movie is really great, because of him.
This film is very dark, intense, and serious. The characters are portrayed in an almost realistic way, compared to the older movies where the villains are straight out of the comic books. Although I love the older Batman movies more, I liked this movie; and I recommend it to people who enjoy fast-paced, action-packed, battle of good-and-evil films.
After the movie, we went to Dairy Queen and I ordered a Heath toffee bar Blizzard in tribute to Heath Ledger.
Awww… why so serious? ![]()

Jul 29, 08 at 7:01 pmNice review!
I felt the same way. I did wish that Two Face hadn’t well. You know. At the end.
Afterwards, Mike and I couldn’t help but wonder how funny it would have been if the Joker’s last scene he had been in a dress. haha

Aug 12, 08 at 1:00 pmI’m not one who’s excited about the new Batman movie, but like you, I can tolerate Batman. As for the other superhero’s, I’m not into those either. My boyfriend is dragging me to see The Dark Knight this weekend though at imax. Should be pretty exciting. We’re traveling an hour and a half to Baltimore so at least I can get out of this crap town for a day.
