It is so completely delightful, living in Florida.
Sweltering hot, sticky summers. Up-close-and-personal confrontations with insects. Warm winters. And, of course… hurricane season!
I live in Florida, and as most people have probably heard, the tropical storm Fay is sweeping across the state.
So far, we have been pretty lucky the last few years. Mostly, it just storms in my area, and rains constantly. It has been heavily raining all day and all night since yesterday. Occasionally, the power may go out, but it hasn’t happened to us yet. Other FL residents aren’t so lucky; in a few towns a couple hours away, some people’s homes have been damaged (or even destroyed) because of tornadoes. The public schools were closed yesterday, and some are still closed today but most are open.
The streets are dead. Everyone apparently seems to be staying inside, as much as possible. My neighborhood has been more quiet than usual, eerily so. No cars. No people on the sidewalk walking their dogs. Dead, rainy silence.
Personally, I like rain. The skies are dark, and the sounds of steady rain drops beating down makes me feel quite sleepy.
I am just hoping it continues to stay like this and doesn’t get much worse. I’ve been contacting all my Florida friends to make sure all is well; and so far, so good.

Aug 20, 08 at 4:24 pmI hope that everything is ok, and that the weather doesn’t get any worse.
It has rained here constantly all summer, and we have had no good weather at all, but it’s mainly been drizzling all day every day. I have been to Florida on holiday and the weather is weird out there, so hot that you wear shorts and things, and then at dinner time it tips with rain and you get soaked.

Aug 20, 08 at 7:56 pmI live in FL too and it’s just been raining since yesterday. Today it’s been off and on but not as much rain as we had yesterday. The last time we had it really bad was with Charley in 2004, thankfully.

Aug 20, 08 at 10:57 pmIt’s been constant rain for me, too. I live in the northwest part of the state. Apparently we could get Fey on Friday.
I’m not a huge fan of tropical storms or hurricanes, but since I grew up with them they don’t bother me too much. At least I know what to expect.
Enjoy your rain and dark skies.

Aug 20, 08 at 11:11 pmI’ve been watching the news, and praying for you guys down there. In Ohio, we don’t get such harsh weather. You guys’ determination and strength always amazes me. =)
I love the rain too, but storms scare me. Anyway, I hope the worst of it stays away and things don’t get worse for you!

Aug 21, 08 at 11:15 amOh gosh Hannah, I’ll be thinking of you every moment and hoping that everything is okay. I’m sure it will be.
As much as I love rain, there comes a point where it’s just too much. However, if it was constantly raining, I would be incredibly happy because I could stay inside, watch Disney movies, webdesign, read a book and eat a lot of popcorn.
But I hope it stays like this too and if anything gets better.

Yeah, living in Florida I often go sick with it’s humid and off and on rain!

Aug 24, 08 at 5:00 pmYeah, the storm didn’t go through my area… It has been raining the last couple of days - I’m going to lose my Michigan tan! lol
I HATE the humidity here! I have bad sinuses so the weather doesn’t really help my condition. The warm winters are awesome though.

Aug 25, 08 at 1:52 pmFlorida is lucky. But I thought that hurricanes have hit in the last few years?? I could be wrong since I don’t really follow weather for the states.

Aug 26, 08 at 2:37 pmI don’t like rain. For some reason weather affects my mood. If it’s bright and sunny, I am happy. If it’s cloudy, rainy, or stormy, I find that my mood changes and I feel sort of depressed. It’s weird.
