Finally, after about 2-3 years, I have some new glasses. I started having headaches frequently, on an almost daily basis, and it occurred to me it might be my glasses. Sure enough, I went to the eye doctor, and my prescription had changed.
After a very annoying consultation with the most condescending optometrist EVER, I picked these Jubilee glasses out. They are burgundy colored, fading into clear at the bottom.
It was the weirdest examination I’ve ever had. I was sitting in the waiting room, when I heard this disembodied voice calling my name out. I looked around, confused, seeing no nurse or anyone standing before me, yet someone was requesting my presence. So, I stood up, and walked down the hall, and finally, I see this blond lady sitting on a stool in a darkened room. She nods at me, and indicates for me to enter the examination room. Already, it seemed weird, because she didn’t even bother to get up out of her chair to come fetch me herself. Anyhow, I sat down in “the chair”.
She then began to speak to me in the most irritating, patronizing tone I’ve ever heard in my life. How do I put this as politically correct as possible… um, she was speaking to me in this strange, “aw, aren’t you special?” kind of voice, as if I were a mentally challenged toddler. Sounds offensive, right? Yes. It was something straight out of a strange Mad TV comedy sketch, and several times I wanted to burst out laughing at her stupid tone, but I realized she was not being funny. It was insulting. I really wanted to push that weird mechanical eye-machine thing out of my face, lean over, and say something along the lines of, “Look, I understand that you probably get irritating people harassing you all day. It is not my fault that you apparently hate your job. All I want is for my eyes to be checked, and I am a reasonable ADULT and I’d appreciate it if you’d please speak to me as such!”
After it was over, she reluctantly led me to the glasses area, so I could pick out some frames. She motioned to the left, and very condescendingly said, “here are the boy glasses. Over here (motioning to the right) are the nice girl glasses. Okay?” Then she stalked off to begrudgingly serve her next patient.
Nice girl glasses?!?! What the…? Am I three years old?
Or, perhaps, she directed me to the “nice girl” glasses, to caution me. You know, in case I wanted to pick out some “bad girl” glasses. GASP!
Damn.
But anyway… after that bitch thoroughly annoyed and belittled me, I ended up with these. I rather like them:

Hannah is a quiet 21 year old college student living in FL. She has an insatiable lust for lip glosses and beauty products. She's an addict of chocolate, upbeat music, everything pink,

but you got a very cute pair of frames!
Although, I can’t really tell… they might be bad girl glasses. Or emo girl glasses. Or skater girl glasses. Or, um…
What ARE good girl glasses anyway?

Sep 20, 08 at 8:28 amUgh, I hate when people talk to me like that. I just want to scream at them. Once, I just started talking back to them like it and they realized they were being ridiculous and stopped.
Your glasses are super cute! I love them!

Sep 20, 08 at 11:15 amI hate it when people talk to me like that. I am shy, and that seems to make people talk like that more. Just because I am quiet doesn’t mean I don’t understand what you are saying. You would think that having a job like that that she would be used to talking to people, but obviously not.
Anyway, your glasses look great on you

Sep 20, 08 at 11:33 amThat’s weird as hell. And it’s apparent she either had a bad day or just don’t like her job and who would go thru 10 years of schooling for a career in something they don’t like it. That’s no way to treat a patient. I wish there was a subtle way to report her without any direct drama in your life.

On the other hand, your glasses look awesome! =D

What an odd way for her to refer to the glasses ha ha. I guess she was used to doing glasses for children?

I need some glasses. I’ve been wearing my ma’s old ones from the 1980’s…probably not a good idea. They’re freakin’ ugly too, I only wear them to drive though.

I hate when people try to act like I’m stupid or treat me like a child. It’s one of my pet peeves.

Wow, those glasses look really nice! I like how the colour fades on them
I’ve only had my glasses for a year, but I think I’m going to have to get my eyes tested again soon, eek x_x

But your new glasses look very cute! So I guess it was worth it?

At least you got cute glasses.
They look lovely with your skin tone and hair.

Sep 23, 08 at 2:45 pmI love your new glasses! I just got a new pair myself, since my old ones just weren’t cutting it either. WTF was wrong with that woman? Maybe she just talks to everyone like that for some reason? Still, she should stop it! I’d be offended too.
LOL @ bad girl glasses.
